A bank that belongs to its people
Temo did not start with a product. It started with a promise.
eNL Mutual Bank carries the initials, and the conviction, of the woman who founded it. Nthabeleng Likotsi set out to build a bank that belongs to the people it serves, not to distant shareholders. She is widely recognised as the first woman to found a bank in South Africa.
It grew from the Young Women in Business Network, started in 2009, and from an idea as old as the continent itself: the stokvel, where neighbours pool what they have so that everyone can rise. From that root, eNL became a licensed, Black-owned, women-led mutual bank, one that ordinary South Africans, stokvels and communities can actually own a piece of.
Their promise is a simple one: banking you for a purpose. And a purpose has to start somewhere. It starts with a child.
